Finding stillness in a busy world

In a fast-paced world, finding stillness can feel like a radical act. We’re surrounded by noise—emails, social media updates, to-do lists—and it’s easy to get swept up in the rush. In the midst of the busyness, there lies a powerful opportunity: the chance to reconnect with our stillness.

Stillness isn’t just the absence of movement; it’s a state of being. It’s about creating space within ourselves to breathe, to listen, and to simply be. When we tap into this stillness, we can access a deeper wisdom—a quiet knowing that guides us more authentically than any external noise ever could.

Here's a few simple practices:

1. Pause and breathe: Take a few moments throughout your day to close your eyes, breathe deeply, and simply observe your breath. This small pause can create a ripple of calm that carries you through your tasks with greater ease.

2. Nature’s wisdom: Step outside, whether it’s a walk in the park, a moment by the sea, or simply feeling the sun on your face. Nature has a way of grounding us and reminding us of the simple beauty in the present moment.

3. Disconnect to reconnect: Set aside time each day to unplug from technology. Whether it’s during your morning routine or before bed, this intentional disconnection can help you reconnect with yourself.

4. Mindful presence: Practice being fully present in whatever you’re doing, whether it’s enjoying a meal, having a conversation, or completing a task. Let go of multitasking and bring your full attention to one thing at a time.

5. Inner listening: Take a few minutes to sit in silence and listen—not just to the sounds around you, but to your inner dialogue. What thoughts, feelings, or insights arise when you give yourself the space to listen?

Stillness is a gift we can give to ourselves, a doorway to deeper self-awareness, clarity, and peace. As we navigate the end of the year, let’s remember that true rest and rejuvenation aren’t found in doing more, but in being more—more present, more mindful, and more connected to our inner world.

🌿 How do you find moments of stillness in your life?

Redefining work through awakened doing

In our fast-paced world, work often becomes synonymous with constant action and relentless productivity. We are conditioned to believe that success comes from doing more, achieving more, and pushing harder. But what if there was another way to approach work—one that aligns with our true nature and brings more fulfillment, purpose, and presence into our daily lives?

Eckhart Tolle, a renowned spiritual teacher, introduces the concept of “awakened doing” in his book A New Earth. This approach redefines work by focusing on how we engage with tasks using three modalities of awakened doing: Acceptance, enjoyment, and enthusiasm.

1. Acceptance: There are times when work may not feel inspiring or enjoyable. In these moments, Tolle suggests embracing acceptance—acknowledging the task at hand without resistance. By accepting what is, we let go of inner conflict and allow ourselves to move through tasks with ease and grace.

2. Enjoyment: When we can shift from mere acceptance to enjoyment, we connect deeply with what we are doing. This doesn’t mean that every task needs to be fun, but rather that we bring a sense of presence and curiosity to the moment. Enjoyment arises when we immerse ourselves fully, finding joy in the process rather than just the outcome.

3. Enthusiasm: Enthusiasm is the highest state of awakened doing. It’s the feeling that ideas and energy flow effortlessly through us. In this state, we’re not just working—we’re co-creating with the universe. Enthusiasm arises when our work aligns with our higher purpose and feels like a natural extension of who we are.

The beauty of awakened doing is that it invites us to transform our relationship with work. Instead of being driven by fear, pressure, or external expectations, we begin to operate from a place of inner peace and alignment. How can you apply these modalities to your work?

“Accepting means you allow yourself to feel whatever it is you are feeling at that moment. It is part of the isness of the Now. You can’t argue with what is. Well, you can, but if you do, you suffer.”
